Historically used by tribal elders to preserve intricate, clay-sculpted hairstyles while resting.

Finished with durable braided tie-strings, its flexible design allows it to be displayed or worn seamlessly as a ceremonial tribal choker, statement wrist cuff, or belt accent.

The Land of Hamar is Where My Story Begins…

Hello! My name is Galtmbe B Shada, and as the founder of Indigenous Dream Walk, I have always believed that our roots shape our purpose.

Growing up amidst the healing rivers, endless forests, and rich traditional clothing and jewelry of Hamar, I learned early on that culture is a living, breathing spirit. It is not just our history; it is our identity.

A Dream Sparked at Fourteen

Since I was 14 years old, I have chased a singular dream: to enhance these deep cultural beauties and introduce them to the civilized world. To me, the Omo Valley is not just a place on a map, but it is the cradle of an ancient artistry that deserves to be celebrated globally.

Today, no matter where business or life takes me, Hamar culture goes with me.

Our Shared Journey

Indigenous Dream Walk was born out of this lifelong devotion. This store is my way of building a bridge between the masterful craftsmanship of my home and collectors who appreciate true, soulful heritage. Every item we offer carries a piece of that living spirit.

I invite you to be a part of this beautiful journey:

  • Preserve traditional artistry by supporting indigenous creators.

  • Appreciate the deep historical narratives carved into every piece.

  • Connect across borders to celebrate human creativity.

When we value each other's cultures, the world becomes a more complete and beautiful place for everyone. Let’s walk with purpose and dream with clarity.

“There are a million and one ways to bring clarity to your dreams. At Indigenous Dream Walk, we invite you to explore our authentic artisan crafts, custom apparel, and durable outdoor gear—each piece carefully selected to elevate your everyday path and power your day bright."

The Hamar Tribe Bull-Jumping ceremony (Ukuli Bula) is an ancient, world-renowned rite of passage from Ethiopia’s South Omo Valley that holds immense commercial value for operators in the cultural tourism, photography, and ethnographic art e-commerce sectors.

The Bull-Jumping ceremony is a multi-day ritual where a young man (Ukuli) must successfully run across the backs of 10 to 30 castrated bulls lined up side-by-side, entirely naked, four times without falling.

🌍 Meet Hamar Culture

The Hamar: Living Heritage of the Omo Valley

The Hamar are a resilient Omotic, pastoralist community of approximately 68,500 people living east of the Omo River in the bush-covered hills of southwestern Ethiopia. Rooted in ancestral hubs like Buska Mountain, Turmi and Dimeka, they maintain a timeless and profound connection to their lands, living in perfect harmony with the natural rhythm of their environment.

🎨 Living Artistry & Sacred Rituals

Celebrated worldwide for their striking visual identity and deep ceremonial life, the Hamar transform daily life into an expression of living art:

  • Body Adornment as Identity: Intricate, vibrant beadwork and traditional styling are central to individual expression. Married women wear polished iron neck rings (Begnere) that elegantly symbolize marital status and lineage, while men sustain magnificent decorative traditions.

  • Cultural Milestones: Tribal heritage is honored through powerful, sacred rites of passage. These include the famous bull-jumping ceremony (Ukuli Bula) for young men, the celebratory rhythms of the Evangadi dance, and the communal Burri Bunno prayer gatherings.

🌾 Harmony with the Land & Community

Life in the Hamar region revolves around communal collaboration, sustainable agriculture, and a profound reverence for livestock:

  • Generational Roles: Responsibilities are beautifully shared across generations to sustain the community. Women and girls manage essential cultivation and home life, while children begin tending goats as early as age eight. Men manage the herds, cultivate the soil with oxen, and carefully harvest wild honey from hives nestled in Ankasi trees.

  • The Cornerstone of Wealth: Cattle, goats, and sheep are the literal and symbolic foundation of Hamar survival and family bonding. Families collaboratively pool resources during challenging dry seasons to protect their herds, which serve as both the community's primary livelihood and the vital "bride wealth" required to honor new marriages.

By honoring the Hamar people, Indigenous Dream Walk invites you to celebrate, preserve, and carry this profound legacy of beauty, resilience, and cultural pride with you wherever you go.

BUNNO KARAMBA

The Indigenous Dream Walk Framework

At Indigenous Dream Walk, we bridge ancestral wisdom with modern leadership. We curate educational and experiential frameworks inspired by time-tested indigenous cultures, guiding organizations and visionaries toward balanced, resilient success.

Our core methodology draws from the profound social and spiritual architecture of the Hamar people. By examining their three foundational pillars—Bull-Jumping, Evangadi, and Burri-Bunno—we map a holistic path for modern personal development, strategic execution, and sustainable organizational growth.

Ukuli Boko

A rustic wooden kitchen table with a wooden mallet (Hamar Ukuli Boko) resting on a small ceramic bowl containing dark berries, a white cloth, and a sprig of greenery, with a wooden shelf and dishes in the background.

The "Ukuli Boko" is a sacred, hand-carved wooden stick traditionally presented by a father to his son, signaling that the young initiate is ready to undergo the Ukuli. This pivotal rite of passage requires the youth to successfully leap across a line of cattle, a triumph that marks his transition from boyhood into manhood and grants him the cultural rights to accumulate wealth and enter into marriage.

EVAN-GADI

Renowned for their rich heritage, the HAMAR people of Ethiopia hold the Evan-gadi as a centerpiece of their cultural identity. Meaning 'Night Dance'—derived from Evan (night) and Gadi (dance)—this iconic ritual is beautifully performed by the light of the moon.

THE BURRI BUNNO

A group of Hamar people, including women and children, dressed in traditional colorful attire and jewelry, gathered for Burri-Bunno around a fire at night, holding wooden bowls, with a large clay pot and a thatched hut in the background.

The Hamar people of Ethiopia are celebrated for their vibrant cultural traditions, with the Burri Bunno standing out as one of their most iconic rituals. Translating to 'Morning Coffee'—derived from Burri (morning) and Bunno (coffee)—this beautiful ceremony is traditionally gathered and shared at 5:00 AM, creating a sacred space to pray for peace, abundance, and rain for their ancestral land.

The Hamar people are well known for their unique cultural traditions, with the Wa Coka (Wetele) being one of the most famous meat-roasting practices in the region.
